Over $1 Billion in ‘Home State’ Spending by Consumers Energy

In 2011 Consumers Energy partnered with Pure Michigan Business Connect and committed to increase it’s ‘home state’ spending with other businesses by $1 billion within 5 years.  The Company not only achieved that goal, it achieved it 1 year ahead of schedule.

This “Michigan first’ program has helped other businesses add more than 5,000 jobs.” said Dan Malone, Consumers Energy’s senior vice president of energy resources. Nearly 400 companies throughout Michigan have benefited from contracts.

As part of its “Pay it Forward” program, Consumers Energy also encouraged its Michigan-based suppliers to utilize sub-
‘home state’ based contractors and suppliers b to help stimulate further job gains and economic growth in the State of Michigan.

Pumford Recognized for Paying It Forward

On April 16, 2015, Pumford Construction was one of 7 companies recognized by Consumers Energy for it’s efforts in “Paying It Forward”.

Pumford was awarded $29.4 million worth of projects (of the $1 billion), including including building the new West Branch Service Center and Groveland Service Center.  All of the resources used to source the completion of the projects were from Pumford and/or Michigan-based companies.

There is no doubt these projects helped Pumford Construction sustain a greater number of employees in the Great Lakes Bay Region during these past years of economic recession.  We are committed to continuing our excellent relationship with Consumers and with the Pure Michigan Business connect in the collective efforts to revitalize our State.
