Pumford Construction Design in Bay City Receives U.S. Green Building Council Gold Level Rating!
Congratulations to the Pumford Construction Design-Build team! In June of 2008, Pumford Construction and developers ProVisions, of Bingham Farms, broke ground on what is now a U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certified site. It is the first and only USGBC LEED Gold certified site in the Great Lakes Bay Region (Saginaw, Bay, Midland)! The only other project that is certified in the region is SVSU’s Pioneer Hall, with a LEED Silver certification designed by Wigen Tincknell & Meyer out of Saginaw.
The site, located at 401 Ketchum Street in Bay City, is home to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) and Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth (DELEG). The new energy efficient space is one of only two LEED Gold certified projects in Michigan north of Saginaw (upper and lower peninsulas included).
“LEED is a point based system where building projects earn LEED points for satisfying specific green building criteria. Within each of the seven LEED credit categories, projects must satisfy particular prerequisites and earn points.
The five categories include Sustainable Sites (SS), Water Efficiency (WE), Energy and Atmosphere (EA), Materials and Resources (MR) and Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ). An additional category, Innovation in Design (ID), addresses sustainable building expertise as well as design measures not covered under the five environmental categories. The number of points the project earns determines the level of LEED Certification the project receives. LEED certification is available in four progressive levels including Certified, Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.” Platinum is the highest rating level. Only four projects in the State of Michigan are registered Platinum.
